The Plantation Singers
Singing traditional Lowcountry songs for over 22 years! The Plantation Singers of Charleston, SC are a professional a cappella singing group renowned locally, nationally and internationally for their singing of the music of the Lowcountry. This group of very talented singers is special in that each has a lifetime of musical experience that began with the music of the southern church. The Plantation Singers were first created in June 1996 under the direction of Ms. Lynnette White,proprietor of LBW Music, LLC, which provides various musical services to the community of Charleston, South Carolina.
The Plantation Singers' director, Lynnette White, has utilized her degree in music and theatre to help create a very positive and uplifting entertainment experience. Locally, the group has performed on the "piccolo part" of Spoleto Festival USA. The group has also performed on several local television stations. Nationally, the group has performed on Gordon Elliott's "Door Knock Dinners" and P. Allen Smith Gardens show. Internationally, the group performed for the Relais & Chateaux Hotel conference in Naples, Italy; the Sori World Music Festival in South Korea, and the Gospel Festival in Spain. The group has also performed in most of Charleston's historic sites and homes, as well as major resorts, plantations and reception sites. The Plantation Singers play an important role in the preservation of the spiritual and sacred music of the Lowcountry of South Carolina
The group has been awarded the prestigious Three Sisters Award given by the Committee To Save The City. This award was given in recognition of the Plantation Singers' contribution to the special character of Charleston. Local artist Rhett Thurman has also featured the group in an art series, which can be found on display in the Wells Gallery in downtown Charleston.
The Plantation Singers have performed at the Leona Helmsly Hotel in New York City and at the Greenbriar Inn in West Virginia. They have performed before General Wm. Westmoreland, the Prince of Scotland, Joel Silver (Hollywood producer), the Mayor of Charleston Joseph Riley, the Cato family of Cato Fashion stores and many, many, more. The Plantation Singers are well known for their ability to reach out and draw a crowd into their performance. The shoe tapping, hand clapping, and sing along atmosphere causes the audience to smile big, hug their neighbors and ask for more.
