Sax y Guitar are a jazz duo specializing in Bossa Nova, standards, Latin jazz, and funk. Ian Sanchez, alto saxophone, and Chris Dodson, hollowbody electric guitar, formed Sax y Guitar in April of 2009. Both previously had played together in a separate band of a different genre for three years. After much thought and desire, Sanchez and Dodson put their creative ideas together and their love of jazz music into a side project for small venues and private parties.
Playing locally at Mistral French Restaurant, J. Paulz, Daily Dose, Kudu Coffee House, Bambu in Mt Pleasant, several private parties in the South of Broad neighborhood and wedding receptions, Sax y Guitar became a main focus.
Less than a year later, Sax y Guitar have applied for Jazz Artists of Charleston, 2010 Piccolo Spoleto Festival, and have gained fans through Facebook and word of mouth. They recorded a full length album of standards, ballads, and Bossa Nova tunes, each with their own twist, and one original tune. Sax y Guitar continues to perform monthly in the Tri-County area.
