Lynnette White, Gullah Presenter
Lynette White is a singer, performer, director and teacher based in Charleston, SC. She is currently the director of the a cappella spiritual singing group, The Plantation Singers, renowned for their singing of the music of the Low Country. The group performs locally, regionally and nationally. Internationally the group has performed in Italy, South Korea and Spain. They have received a preservation award from the city of Charleston and have released three CD’s, “This Little Light of Mine” and “Feelin’ Good” and “Merry Christmas from The Plantation Singers.” They also have a video/DVD entitled “Roots of Rhythm.” In addition to directing the Plantation Singers, Ms White is also the director of the Rainbow Gospel Singers, an a cappella gospel singing group. Ms White is also the director of The Rainbow Community Choir and The Rainbow Community Band of Charleston, SC. Both groups specialize in the singing and performing of old gospel songs and hymns. Ms White is also a private music instructor with over forty years of teaching experience, and maintains a full-time teaching studio in Charleston. Besides teaching, directing, and performing, Ms White is a well known interpreter of the Gullah culture. She enjoys educating and entertaining audiences with many facts and stories of the Gullah people. She has performed at Boone Hall Plantation’s Gullah Theatre, the Charleston County Public Library, and family reunions. She is ideal for corporate events and school groups.
