Jennifaye Singleton, Gullah Presenter
Jennifaye Singleton was born and raised in South Carolina by a six generation family of basket weavers. She credits her aunt Martha Wright with teaching her the basics at age 7. Jennifaye continued to learn by watching family members weaving and sewing throughout her childhood and adult life. Using a combination of sweet grass, pine needles, bulrush, and palmetto and palm leaves, Jennifaye crafts each basket that is unique and one of a kind. Jennifaye decided that she wanted to share her knowledge of basket weaving and the Gullah Culture, so she learned to present her knowledge with guidance from Lynnette White of the Plantation Singers. Jennifaye Singleton has been an excellent addition to the family of Gullah Presenters at Boone Hall Plantation since 2020.
