Chief Louie C. Chavis
is a member of the Beaver Creek Indians. He became Vice-Chief in April of 2002, and Chief in November of 2004. Chief Chavis is a commissioner on the SC Indian Affairs Commission, and a member of the state recognized Tribal Advisory Committee. He is also a member of the SC Indian Development Council, and the SC Arts Commission on Native American Arts and Crafts. Chief Chavis retired from SCE&G in March of 1989. He received a Life Savers Award with SC Occupational Safety Council in February of 1974. Chief Chavis is a 3rd degree Mason and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He is also a member of Ducks Unlimited and serves as a guide with the SC Waterfowl Association. Chief Chavis enjoys speaking with all groups on the American Indian culture, traditions, and the recognition process for tribes in America today.
